John C. Maxwell said “The bottom line in leadership isn't how far we advance ourselves but how far we advance others.” What a great quote. I worked with a guy who was really good at many things he did, but he was not a very good manager. He was afraid to let anyone on his team do better than he did, so he may not have even known he was doing it, but he kept people from growing too much. When I moved on, I had a pretty frank conversation with him about it. I did it out of love, but I was a little more direct than I may have been if I was staying there. He and I are still friends. I don't know if that conversation helped, but he is a better manager today!
