Henry Ford said “Stopping advertising to save money is like stopping your watch to save time.” I've always loved this quote, but I've also worked in media since I was 16 years old, so there's that! I had a conversation with a business that was concerned about the economy about a decade ago. They said they wanted to “pull back” on advertising. My concern for them was that when you pull back on a horse it slows down and eventually stops. I think it's similar with pulling back on advertising. They did pull back, then pulled back more and eventually closed their doors. Meanwhile, my other clients who didn't pull back were actually growing at the time!
