Zoe Clark-Coates said "Whenever I see someone with an abundance of empathy, I want to ask what heartbreak they have endured, for compassion is often birthed in the valley of despair." I get that completely! I had someone ask ME why we go out of our way to help people who struggle with addiction. I'm not 100% sure, but I'd guess it's because my father was an alcoholic... I say WAS an alcoholic because he died at just 49. That's too young. He never had a chance to meet my wife... never met my kids. He missed out on so many things. I think that may be the reason my heart goes out to others who struggle with that particular addiction.
