Sowell said "People who enjoy meetings should not be in charge
of anything." I can attest to this one! I am not a fan of
meetings. Don't get me wrong. I love to help with events and plan
community celebrations, but the meeting part... UGH! I have some
things that I do on my own because I'd rather do the work of six
people, than meet with six people! I'm only kind of kidding! I am
learning to delegate and that really has been helpful. When I was on
the board for a few different nonprofit organizations. I loved to
help, but I didn't like the one hour meeting each month. That as
twelve hours a year that I endured so I could help at a one hour
event. I finally spoke up and told them, “I would love to help with
the event, but I can't do the monthly meetings, can I be like a
'friend of the board' instead a member of the board?” It's been
great!
