Abraham Lincoln said "A house divided against itself cannot stand." This was true in the 1850s and it is true today! Abraham Lincoln was the President of the United States during the Civil War. It would have been a difficult time to be in charge. The nation was divided. Many families and groups of friends were divided. Some homes were even divided within. It was in the years leading up to this that Abraham Lincoln said these words. In 1858, the nation was already drifting apart, but a few years later, Americans were up in arms against one another. I hope this never happens again, even though Hollywood has made more than one movie about it recently. This would be one of the most horrible things to happen. We may not agree on everything all the time, but I would think we can all agree that this type of thing can never happen again, ever.
